Center for Alaska Native Health Research
The Center for Alaska Native Health Research (CANHR) mission is to build relationships and research-based knowledge to improve the health of Alaskans and Alaska Native people. CANHR supports research to address leading Tribal health priorities in Alaska, including: suicide, substance misuse and mental health; child and adolescent health; nutrition, physical activity and cardiovascular disease; and oral health. CANHR faculty and staff work collaboratively with rural communities, organizations, and individuals to a) advance traditional health knowledge, b) promote self-determined health solutions and prevention strategies, c) develop more effective and culturally grounded interventions, and d) build community capacity and leadership in biomedical and behavioral health research.
