Bonanza Creek Long-Term Ecological Research

The  (BNZ LTER) program is located in the boreal forest of interior Alaska, USA. Research of the BNZ LTER focuses on improving our understanding of the long-term consequences of changing climate and disturbance regimes in the Alaskan boreal forest. The site was established in Fairbanks, Alaska in 1987 as part of the National Science Foundation's LTER Program. The BNZ LTER has research sites in the   (BCEF),  (CPCRW), as well as sites throughout interior Alaska.

Fire is a key element of the boreal forest ecosystem. The 2010 Willow Creek fire in Bonanza Creek LTER burned 2,900 acres.
