Dr. Matt Gilbert, an assistant professor in the Institute of Arctic Biology, recently served as a subject matter expert for the Netflix docuseries ‘Our Oceans’. While reviewing footage, he and his collaborators noticed phenomena that were novel or poorly documented by western science. This led to a recent "Scientific Naturalist" paper in Ecology, identifying exciting questions about pulse resources as drivers of animal movement in highly seasonal areas.
