ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø' Environmental Health Safety and Risk Managment (EHSRM) department will be introducing ºÚÁϳԹÏÍøOptics, a comprehsise platform for all things EHSRM. This all-in-one tool replaces multipe systems with a single customer interface, allowing access to all your EHSRM information in one place.

Frequently Asked Questions

ºÚÁϳԹÏÍøOptics is a cross-functional EHSRM platform designed for institutions of higher education. ºÚÁϳԹÏÍøOptics was created to help campus safety professions improve , reduce institutional risk and enhance the culture of safety. 

ºÚÁϳԹÏÍøOptics will allow us to have a one-stop shop for all things EHSRM. ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø customers will have a single, customizable dashboard giving them real-time visibility to all their health, safety and environmental compliance information. 

From laboratory researchers to facilities shop supervisors, contractors looking for a Safety Data Sheet or submitting a hot work permit, anyone who interacts with Environmental Health Safety and Risk Management or our resources will be using ºÚÁϳԹÏÍøOptics in one way or another.  While research laboratory personnel and those requesting hazardous waste disposals will likely be the heaviest users, don’t worry  - you will likely get to experience the new customer friendly platform, too!

EHSRM is working with CampuOptics to populate as much initial setup information as possible. Once this initials setup work is complete, we will ask that everyone log in to the new platform and verify the information associated with their profile is accurate.

Upon initial implementation the following services will be transitioning to ºÚÁϳԹÏÍøOptics:

  • Safety inspections and issue remediation

  • Chemical inventory management

  • Hazardous waste management

  • Radioactive materials management

  • Asset Management (x-rays, lasers, etc.)

  • Safety Data Sheets

Other services transitioning to ºÚÁϳԹÏÍøOptics:

  • Compliance calendar

  • Permit management (i.e. hot work permits, etc)

  • Safety training records

Absolutely!  Training and guidance will be provided in a variety of ways.  Check this website frequently for links to task specific tutorial guides, upcoming live training sessions, links to recorded training webinars and more.  Additionally, EHSRM staff will be available to provide hands-on training to laboratories, shops and other users of the platform.  Stay tuned for more information coming in 2026.

We are currently working through these details with ºÚÁϳԹÏÍøOptics. 

If all goes as planned, all UAF employees and student basic information (as in Banner) will be auto-populated into the system. To activate a new user account there will be a Authorized User Request form available as part of implementation. 

 

Radioactive materials management is planned for use in ºÚÁϳԹÏÍøOptics in Phase 2. RAM use laboratories should continue to use current procedures  all Radioactive material management. Chemical inventory will be managed using ºÚÁϳԹÏÍøOptics as part of the initial role out. 

Authorized ºÚÁϳԹÏÍøOptics users will manage important safety and compliance information pertaining to their laboratories or workspaces in the following areas, chemical inventory, inspections, asset tracking.

Services such as hazardous waste and searching for a Safety Data Sheet (SDS) have been blended into the ºÚÁϳԹÏÍøOptics system; however, these services will not require registration and are open to all of the UAF community. 

 

Radioactive materials management and permitting is planned for ºÚÁϳԹÏÍøOptics in Phase 2. Additional planned services include confined space permitting, hot work, incident tracking and management. Environmental compliance programs such as above and below ground tank management, and other university compliance activities will also move to ºÚÁϳԹÏÍøOptics over time. EHSRM will continue to keep users updated on new features and enhancements via mass email communications or you can find more information on this ºÚÁϳԹÏÍøOptics help page.
