Fall 2025 Semester Mini-grant Proposals Open!

Mini-grants are available for you to secure funding for your or your team's passion project!
The project must meet two criteria to be considered:

The innovation of a product
-
The product must be centered around solving a community problem
Some examples might be:

A sensor to measure air quality in your community

A new dog toy you designed for the animal shelter

A robot to clear snow for the elderly
Apply for up to $300 grant for materials and supplies!
The Mini-grant process is broken down into 5 steps seen below. Steps 1-3 focus on how to write and submit your Mini-grant, Step 4 focuses on working on your project, and Step 5 focuses on how to share your project and complete your required deliverables.
With a vision for a more accessible and efficient winter campus, Team Robo Plow engineered a robotic snow plow. Their project explored automation and robotics to tackle real-world Alaskan challenges
The Wheelski Mini-grant team used 3D printing to develop clip-on skis for wheelchairs, making it easier for individuals to navigate UAF’s snowy campus. Their innovative solution highlights the power of accessible design and inclusive problem-solving.â€
Happylight Mini-grant team showcasing their design for a DIY Happy Light kit designed to support mental wellness on campus, especially for those affected by Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), making light therapy more accessible and building awareness around mental health
Team Data Field Pie Box designed a customizable remote sensing unit to support researchers across Alaska. Here, they demonstrate the adaptable interface and modular design that allows the unit to be configured for a wide range of field conditions.
Team Jet Boat Clog Protection developed a debris-blocking impeller guard to prevent clogs in jet boat motors. Designed with Alaska’s search and rescue crews in mind, the team’s prototype aims to improve reliability in high-debris waterways.
