Safety Resources

Safety at the ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø includes emergency management, workplace safety, field safety, protection of minors, and more.

Any accident that occurs during work activities  (no matter how small) is encouraged  to be reported through an ASAP.  EHSRM will work with the claimant through the insurance procedure if need be.  This includes  travel and field excursions. Once an Origami Report is filed, it will be determined if the event qualifies for Worker's Compensation. Related questions and matters can be found on the UA's Insurance & Risk Management website.

Any medical condition or medical emergency on campus that does not arise through reasonable working activities will not be covered through the university.

Please visit Environmental Health, Safety, and Risk Management for more information.

For more information about safety procedures within CFOS, please contact Cheryl Clarke-Hopcroft.

Field Safety

A should be filled out for any fieldwork  (except when on major vessels), and a form should be submitted if traveling by small boat, snowmachine, etc.

Signatures for these forms should be routed through Cheryl Clarke-Hopcroft, cclarkehopcroft@alaska.edu, and Bethany Pitts bjgraves@alaska.edu.

For other forms and documents related to field safety, see Fieldwork Safety and Training and the EHSRM Documents and forms page.

Training

Includes UAF required training, supervisor training, laboratory training, specific chemical training, fieldwork and logistics training, and more.

Some UAF training must be completed yearly. Talk to your supervisor or advisor about which trainings you need for the work you are about to do.

Emergency Action Plans

Includes building-specific information on evacuation routes, exit points, roll call locations, locations of emergency supplies, how to notify emergency responders, and more.

Per UAF policy, each building occupied by one or more employees will have a current Emergency Action Plan (EAP). Each EAP is to be updated annually and when changes occur. All employees must review each applicable EAP and complete the quiz at least annually.

Chemicals: Storage, Use and Disposal

Includes chemical inventory, safe storage, handling protocols, shipping, and methods for disposal.
