2026 Summer Programs

American History and Civic Leadership
Dates: May 29 - June 7 - tentative dates until students’ registration is complete
Locations: Washington DC & New York
Join us this summer for an unforgettable adventure exploring American history and civic leadership in New York City and Washington, D.C. Students will visit iconic landmarks, engage with the stories that shaped our nation, and experience how history, government, and leadership come alive beyond the classroom.
- This program is has optional 3 college credits available
- All expenses paid and open to all eligible Upward Bound Students.

Introduction to Applied Ethnobotany
Dates: June 1 - July 17
Locations: Online and Toolik Research Station
Discover how people of Alaska use and care for the plants that sustain life in the tundra, coastal, and boreal forest ecosystems. Ethnobotany is the study of how people understand, use, and relate to plants. In Alaska, this includes: traditional medicines, food gathering & processing, weaving & carving materials, tools & clothing, seasonal activities, regional traditions, sustainable harvesting practices, and resource management. This program is an online course that offers hands-on workshops and a in-person visit to the Toolik Research Station.
- This program is a dual credit course at most Alaska high schools offering 3 college science credits.
- All expenses paid and open to all eligible Upward Bound Students.

Alaska Futures in Engineering
Dates: June 14 - 20
Location: UAF Troth Yeddha’ ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø
Get ready for an unforgettable week packed with discovery, growth, and fun at UAF Troth Yeddha’ ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø. This program will help students uncover their potential and envision an exciting future, while diving into UAF’s educational opportunities, explore cutting-edge career paths, and experience life as a college student.

Sitka Science Center Summer Intensive
Date: July 19 - 25
Location: Sitka Science Center, Sitka, AK
Explore Sitka at the Sitka Sound Science Center Summer Intensive. Students will learn from local scientists and experts while snorkeling, studying marine life, exploring coastal ecosystems, and discovering exciting STEM and career pathways in a one-of-a-kind learning experience.
- After your week long workshop you will receive .50 high school CTE credit
- All expenses paid and open to Upward Bound Math & Science Students at North Pole High School.
