JOB SUMMARY
The Assistant Controller will serve as an important member of the Finance and Accounting group with primary responsibility in general accounting related to regional operations, including daily oversight of accounting staff. This role works closely with operations while utilizing accounting and economic skills to evaluate operating data, business trends and prepare financial statements that comply with company and industry practices, regulatory requirements, generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and IFRS. The Assistant Controller should aspire to be a future Controller.

- Supervise administrative and financial staff including hiring, training, evaluation and development
- Work closely with operations to ensure proper flow of accounting information
- Prepares, reviews, and analyzes monthly financial reports to ensure integrity is maintained
- Lead monthly construction and manufacturing closing processes ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting. Responsible for preparations of journal entries, reconciliations and financial reporting
- Track & analyze cash position, assist in cash forecasting and reporting of net financial position
- Assist with annual budgeting and monthly forecasting
- Review financial and administrative issues with Regional Controller
- Review operating costs and propose potential areas of cost reduction with Regional Controller and management team
- Participates in external and internal audits
- Monitors accounts receivables, maintenance of aging records, collections, and data entry
- Ensures established internal controls and processes
- Supports implementation of policies and procedures developed at the regional and corporate level
- Prepares/coordinates reports required by regulatory agencies, e.g., sales and use tax, highway use tax
- Provides accounting guidance in adherence to GAAP and IFRS
- Assists the Regional Controller with special projects as necessary
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or other related field required
- At least 5 years of accounting work experience with a CPA/CMA/CCIFP designation or 7 years without technical designation
- Previous experience managing a small team
- Construction and manufacturing cost accounting experience preferred including job costing, WIP reporting, product costing, pricing and inventory control
- Must be able to create and implement work plans, budgets, and financial plans. Prepare written materials, and articulate goals and action plans
- Strong leadership skills, ability to set objectives, delegate tasks, evaluate performance and develop a cross-functional team
- Ability to influence others, resolve problems, and manage conflict in a positive manner
- High degree of professionalism; ability to communicate with confidence and tact
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy, confidentiality, and ethics
- Willing and able to travel on occasion to out-of-town meetings or as needed
- Experience with financial accounting software
- Strong Written/ Oral and Interpersonal Communication skills; ability to write and communicate complex information in an easily comprehensible manner
- JD Edwards or other ERP systems experience preferred
- Ideal candidate will have a technical certification (CPA, CMA or CCIFP) or be motivated to obtain them
- Proficient in Microsoft Office specifically Word, PowerPoint, and Excel

DESCRIPTION
Local manufacturing small business is seeking a full-time permanent accountant. Candidate
should have a minimum of 5 years experience and hold a professional license as a
CPA.
This position requires analytical skills, attention to detail, excellent communication, and decision-making capabilities. Ability to work efficiently and independently a plus. Successful candidate should have proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and the ability to learn company specific accounting software (SAGE 100 Contractor SQL) and proprietary pipe database.
JOB DUTIES
Position will provide oversight and depending on company accounting controls duties
will be divided between the candidate and other staff. Candidate will be required
to understand how all duties are performed.
Payroll: Daily payroll entry. Weekly payroll processing and payroll tax deposits. Weekly Child support payments. New-hire processing and reporting, reduction in force employee paperwork and Monthly Union reports. Other HR Duties as they arise. Quarterly and yearly payroll tax reports.
Daily labor and production reporting, which includes information pulled from previous days payroll and manufacturing information, which includes inventory tracking.
Accounts Receivable: Maintaining communication between the project managers on status of jobs to ensure expeditious and thorough invoicing as work is completed. Managing accounts receivable remittances and follow up on A/R aging to ensure prompt payments.
Accounts Payable: management, filing and payment of vendor/supplier invoices.
Raw material inventory allocations and reconciliations; periodic physical inventory counts will be required. Current raw materials being tracked is limited to less than a dozen items.
Candidate is required to assist with office duties: answering phones, filing, processing incoming mail, assistance with insurance renewals/questions, client documentation turnover, safety issues/regulations, use of our in-house pipe tracking database for loadouts and job cost analysis reporting to project managers and owners.
Candidate specific responsibilities will include preparing monthly financial and cost analysis reports for company including on a per job and per service basis using standard current formats for project managers and owners review.
Year-end financial activities, including gathering information for yearly audits/reviews and tax preparation deliverable to outside CPA firms for final processing. Financials.

Full Time 40 hours per week.

INTERNSHIP SUMMARY
The Accounting Intern will support the accounting team with daily operations, financial
reporting, and process improvement initiatives.This role provides hands-on experience
in accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, and general ledger functions.The
Intern will gain exposure to how a finance and accounting department operates in a
public utility environment.
WAGE
$22.88 per hour
This is an in-person position located in Fairbanks, Alaska.
This is a temporary position for up to 1,000 hours.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist with bank, credit card, and balance sheet reconciliations
- Help prepare journal entries and maintain supporting documentation
