What is URSA?
The office of Undergraduate Research & Scholarly Activity (URSA) is UAF's resource for the development and promotion of experiential learning activities that engage undergraduate students to support UAF's goal to become a leading student-focused research university.
Undergraduate research and creative activity at UAF covers all disciplines, from climate sciences to music, engineering, anthropology, life sciences, art and theater.

2024- 2025 Climate Change Project Awards
Accepting Applications: July 15 - September 8, 2024This grant opportunity of up to $5,000 is open to all undergraduate students (from any discipline and any UAF-affiliated campus) who are interested in conducting scholarly work on various aspects of climate change, including but not limited to climate science, climate policy, visual or written communication of climate issues, and climate adaptation and mitigation strategies. We encourage proposals featuring interdisciplinary projects.

2024- 2025 Community-Engaged Learning Awards
Accepting Applications: July 15 - September 8, 2024Degree-seeking UAF undergraduate students, graduate students, faculty, postdoctoral researchers, and staff from all disciplines and UAF campuses are encouraged to apply for awards up to $5,000 to engage with a community partner to explore a community need or problem through research or scholarly activity. Awarded proposals will clearly describe a project with a desire to collaborate with a community partner (leader, organization, or population) who is willing to support undergraduate student involvement.

2024- 2025 Student Belonging and Community Awards
Accepting Applications: July 15 - September 8, 2024Degree-seeking UAF undergraduate students, graduate students, faculty, postdoctoral researchers, and staff from all disciplines and UAF campuses are encouraged to apply for awards of up to $5,000 are available for projects focused on cultivating a culture of respect, connection, belonging, and community for undergraduate students at UAF and UAF-affiliated campuses. Priority will be given to proposals that align with UAF-wide initiatives for improving the experience for undergraduate students, promoting student success, and fostering a sense of belonging and community while advocating for fair treatment of students.

2025 Spring Student Project Awards
Applications open September 30th.Undergraduate students planning to pursue creative projects or conduct research during the Spring 2025 semester are invited to apply for Student Project funding up to $3,000 for individuals and up to $6,000 for group applicants.
Accepting applications September 30 - November 3, 2024.

Rolling Acceptance
Travel funds support students presenting research or creative activity outcomes at a conference, meeting or congregation of their peers/professionals in their respective field, as well as students partaking in competitions.
Virtual event registration fees are also eligible for funding.

Rolling Acceptance
Undergraduate students with confirmed unpaid or minimally paid internships are invited to apply for URSA’s Internship Award.
Internships Applications are eligible for up to $3,000 for a Fall- or Spring-term internship or $6,000 for a Summer-term internship.
Students must have a secured opportunity in order to apply for funding.

2024 Research and Creative Activity (RCA) Day
This annual event allows students to showcase their scholarly experiences from the current academic year through posters, presentations, creative displays, and public performances. Both URSA-funded and non-URSA students are encouraged to participate. All UAF students, faculty, staff, and the community at large are invited to attend.
