UAF Cooperative Extension to host workshops, test gauges in Bethel

Jasmine Shaw, a program assistant for the ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø Cooperative Extension Service, will be in Bethel on Sept. 2-3 to lead free food preservation workshops and test pressure canning gauges. She will also answer questions and offer free publications.
From 5-9 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 2, participants will learn to make healthy, home-canned vegetable soups from garden to pantry using a pressure cooker. They will also learn to make vegetable pickles using the water bath method.
From noon-2 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 3, residents can bring their pressure canner dial gauges to Shaw for a free test to determine if the gauge is accurate and functioning properly. New or unused gauges should be tested before first use. This is also a good time to drop in with any food preservation or gardening questions and pick up free publications on both those topics.
Youths and families are invited to a jam-making session from 4 to 6 p.m. Participants can bring berries from home, or store-bought fruit will be provided.
All events will be held at the Kuskokwim Consortium Library, 420 State Highway, Bethel.
