Nov. 11, 2025

Welcome to week 12! You are doing amazing!

Today is Veterans Day! UAF has a strong tradition of serving our active-duty, National Guard, and veteran students. As of this week, we have nearly 600 students attending UAF supported through active-duty or veteran benefits. Please join UAF's chapter of Student Veterans of America and the Department of Military and Veteran Services for a special spring 2026 registration event and Veterans Day recognition on Tuesday, Nov. 11. We'll have a team of dedicated academic, financial aid, and Veterans' benefits advisors on hand until 3 p.m. in Rasmuson 403 (24-hour Study Lounge) to help finalize your spring term plans. There are breakfast and lunch spreads to help mark the holiday. At 11:15 a.m., we paid tribute to the rich Veteran community here at UAF and across Fairbanks with remarks to honor the occasion. Join us to complete your registration, or simply pop in to honor our veterans and their service to this nation!

How are you feeling? At some point in our long race, someone is yelling at you from the sidelines that you are doing amazing, and you look over and think that you’d like that person to be quiet. You don’t feel amazing. You feel tired and worn out.

If you’re feeling a bit off or struggling, know that you’re not alone. It’s important to acknowledge your feelings. You’re tackling something challenging, and there’s nothing wrong with needing a little help. Don’t hesitate to reach out to family, friends or your advisor. If you can’t think of anyone to talk to, consider reaching out to ORCA or the Student Health and Counseling Center. They’re great resources dedicated to helping you on your journey.

Remember, the finish line for this term is approaching quickly! Can you see it? I can, and it’s not far away! After next week, we have a brief holiday week, followed by just one week of classes before finals. If you’re feeling behind, that break will be a perfect time to catch up.

Just a friendly reminder: distractions are everywhere this season, so try to stay focused! The holidays are full of joy, good food, and time with loved ones, but they can also bring stress with all the family and financial pressures. Keep your long-term goals for yourself and your loved ones on your mind as you navigate this busy but also demanding season. Take care of yourself, and stay on track!

If you’ve got everything under control, that’s fantastic! Consider sharing your wisdom and energy with your fellow students. That’s truly what the holiday spirit is all about!

Things to do:

Get registered for spring 2025! Spring registration opened on Nov. 3!

It’s that exciting time to plan your spring semester! Don’t wait too long to register – getting in early means more options and a better chance to snag your ideal schedule before classes fill up. Take a peek at your course choices and grab your spot in the classes you’re eager to take! If you need any help picking courses or with the registration process? Connect with UAF Advising.

And don’t forget to step outside! Whether you’re in Alaska or Arkansas, take a break from your computer, classes, roommates, and everything else. Get outside, move your body, and soak in the fresh air, natural light (or cozy darkness), and the beauty of the skies. You deserve it!

Have a great 12th week of classes.

I offer a lot of advice. Please share your thoughts about what I or we can do better, or what you love about UAF, with me: obguthrie@alaska.edu.
