Welcome to week 11!
Hey everyone! Things are about to pick up speed, so let’s take a minute to look ahead
at what’s coming up! After this week, we’ve got two full weeks until fall break, which
runs Wednesday through Sunday, Nov. 26-30. Once we’re back on Monday, Dec. 1, it’s
the last week of classes before finals – can you believe it? This semester is flying
by! Between late midterms, holiday celebrations, and those last big projects, it’s
going to be a busy but rewarding stretch. Let’s finish strong and make these next
few weeks count.
Now’s a great time to check your calendar! Take a moment to jot down all the important
dates coming up, like exams and those big assignments. Mapping this out can help you
get a handle on the coming days and also help you keep track of everything, reduce
stress, and manage your time better as we head into these busy weeks.
Open registration for all students began yesterday, Monday, Nov. 3. If you haven’t met with your advisor yet, now’s the perfect time to do so! It’s crucial
to finalize your spring classes and make sure your financial aid is in order before
the chaos of finals hits. Getting your spring semester organized will bring you some
peace of mind during the holidays and make returning in January much smoother.
And guess what? Enrollment at UAF is up, and we have lots of new students joining
us! Classes are filling up quickly, so if there are specific classes you want, now’s
the time to jump in and grab your spot! Let’s make the most of these last few weeks
together!
Things to do:
Get registered for spring 2025; spring registration opened on Nov. 3!
It’s that exciting time to plan your spring semester! Don’t wait too long to register
– getting in early means more options and a better chance to snag your ideal schedule
before classes fill up. Take a peek at your course choices and grab your spot in the
classes you’re eager to take! If you need any help picking courses or with the registration
process? Connect with UAF Advising.
Dual enrollment registration opened on Nov. 3. The Office of Dual Enrollment is here
to help! You can schedule an appointment or reach out for assistance at Dual Enrollment.
Also, take care of yourself. Make some time to have fun and enjoy some of what makes
UAF and our special places so special. UAF has a lot of for this coming weekend; here are some highlights:
-
Tomorrow, Nov. 5, from noon to 2 p.m. in the Wood Center Multi-Level Lounge. The cost
is $5 for students and $10 for staff. Come sample and vote on the best chili as departments from across campus go head-to-head
for bragging rights and prizes! It’s all part of a delicious fundraiser benefiting
United Way, so every bite supports a great cause. Don’t miss the fun, flavor and friendly
competition!
-
Pop-Con Nov. 7-8 Pop-Con is a celebration of all things pop culture – gaming, entertainment, books,
comics, and more! Every year, Pop-Con takes over the Wood Center for a weekend of
tournaments, vendors, cosplay, workshops, and activities. You don't want to miss out!
-
Tuesday, Nov. 11, is Veterans Day! Please join UAF's chapter of Student Veterans of America and the Department of Military
and Veteran Services for a special spring 2026 registration event and Veterans Day
recognition on Tuesday, Nov. 11. We'll have a team of dedicated academic, financial
aid, and veterans' benefits advisors on hand from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Rasmuson 403
(24-hour Study Lounge) to help finalize your spring term plans. There will be breakfast
and lunch spreads to help mark the holiday, and at 11:15 a.m., we'll pay tribute to
the rich veteran community here at UAF and across Fairbanks with remarks to honor
the occasion. Join us to complete your registration, or simply drop by for the tribute
at 11:15 a.m. to honor our veterans and their service to this nation!
Lastly, you’re doing great – keep up the awesome work as we head into the final stretch
before exams! Now’s the perfect time to start reviewing and getting ready for finals.
Remember, steady effort really pays off, and starting early will make a big difference.
There are lots of out there, but the real key to success is simply putting in the time and believing
in yourself. You’re almost there – the finish line for fall 2025 is in sight! Keep
going, take care of yourself, and tackle each day one step at a time. You’ve totally
got this!
Have a great eleventh week of classes. See your advisor. Get registered for spring.
Take care of yourself.
Turnabout is fair play. You’ve received a lot of advice from me – please share your
advice in return: obguthrie@alaska.edu.
