“Energy in the North,” hosted by ACEP’s Amanda Byrd, explores the importance and opportunities that energy and power provide to Alaska and its people.

This month’s upcoming episodes will feature Rick Rocheleau on Jan. 21 and Hafsa Halidah on Jan. 28.

Rocheleau, director of Hawaii Natural Energy Institute at the University of Hawaii at Manoa campus, talks about how Hawaii’s early adoption of solar power gave Alaska insight on net metering and renewable energy integration into microgrids.

Learn about Indonesia’s effort to bring electricity to remote communities with a goal of reaching 100% electrification by 2030 from Halidah, senior engineering specialist at the Research Center for Electrical Technology at Indonesia’s National Research and Innovation Agency in Jakarta.

The episodes aired earlier this month include Nick Nickerson and Jeff Adams. Nickerson, mayor of Klawock on Prince of Wales Island, explained how the Island’s communities are powered by hydropower plants. Adams, senior technical specialist for Indigenous communities for Power and Water Corporation in Australia’s Northern Territory, talked about how its Indigenous communities are powered.

The series airs weekly on and on Wednesdays at 7:45 a.m., 8:45 a.m. and 5:45 p.m. Alaska Time.
